Sierra Nevada Season Extended: Late Snowfall Keeps Slopes Open Until May
14 April 2026 · 2 min read · 312 words
Sierra Nevada will remain open until 3 May 2026 thanks to late-season snow, offering a new 'Snow Spring' pass for eager skiers and snowboarders.
Spring Skiing Lives On in the Peaks of Granada
In a major boost for the local tourism economy and winter sports enthusiasts, the Sierra Nevada ski resort has officially confirmed it will extend its current season until 3 May 2026. This decision comes after an uncharacteristically cold start to April, which brought a fresh blanket of 'powder' to the higher altitudes, drastically improving conditions just as the resort was preparing for its annual wind-down.
The 2025/26 winter season has been one of the most successful in recent memory for the Granada station. By extending operations for an additional week beyond the original schedule, Sierra Nevada remains the only major skiing destination still operating in southern Europe this late in the year. For visitors and residents, this offers the unique 'Granada experience': skiing in the morning and enjoying the sunny Mediterranean beaches of the Costa Tropical by the afternoon.
Special Spring Passes Now Available
To celebrate the extension, the resort's management (Cetursa) has launched a 'Snow Spring' pass. Priced at just €72 for two days of skiing, the pass is designed to lure locals and holidaymakers back to the mountains for the final stretch of the season. These passes went on sale earlier this month and remain valid through the new closing date in May. Conditions on the upper slopes, particularly in the Veleta and Laguna de las Yeguas areas, are reported to be excellent, with the altitude helping to preserve snow quality despite the rising spring temperatures in the city below.
For the expat community and travel industry, this extension is a welcome relief after a winter that saw fluctuating temperatures. The extra weeks of operation are expected to generate significant revenue for the hotels and businesses in Pradollano, many of which had expected to be closing their doors for the summer by mid-April.
